We're in the midst of cold and flu season, so I wanted to share the protocol that has been quite effective at helping with respiratory illnesses in my family. Of course, we also use homeopathic remedies for treating colds, flus, and COVID-19. However, I have found that when we use the following supplement trio, with many illnesses the symptoms never become strong enough to need much in the way of homeopathic support.
Supplement Trio
At the first sign of illness, we take these three supplements twice a day:
Vitamin D3: 2500-5000 IU
Vitamin C: 1000-3000 mg
Quercetin: 250-500 mg

About Vitamin D: We generally use a combination of Rosita's Extra-Virgin Cod Liver Oil (EVCLO) and Adapt Naturals Vitamin D3/K2 oil. Vitamin D is known to boost the immune system, and "recent epidemiological evidence indicates a significant association between vitamin D deficiency and an increased incidence of several infectious diseases."
About Vitamin C: We generally use Nature's Way or Solaray Super Bio Vitamin C. When administered during illness, Vitamin C has been shown to be effective at reducing the "severity of the respiratory symptoms."
About Quercetin: We use Natgrown Quercetin + Bromelain. Quercetin helps during illnesses by "[inhibiting] the initial stages of virus infection" and works well as an antiviral.
Note that these are some of the same supplements that make up the nutraceutical bundle which is recommended by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) for COVID-19 illness.
How to Give These to Kids Who Can't Swallow Pills
The Vitamin D can be taken right off a spoon, but what about the quercetin and Vitamin C?
If your kids are like mine and have never learned how to take pills, here is an easy way to give these supplements:
Break open the Vitamin C or Quercetin capsules and stir them into yogurt or applesauce.
This makes it really easy for the kids to take their Vitamin C and quercetin. My kids prefer to use a lightly sweetened vanilla yogurt for this, such as Stonyfield Organics.
